Studio House Wohlen Road

Wohlen, Aargau, Switzerland

In Wohlen, Switzerland, a 1950s house opens up to a new dimension. Rather than remodeling the existing structure, we added an extension that dialogues with the old building: same volume, same proportions, but with a light and lively presence. Transparent and modular, it finally connects the interior spaces to the garden, everyday life to light, architecture to sensory experience.

The hybrid structure—steel, concrete, wood—is built around four posts, arranged in a 5 × 5 meter grid. Each element is designed to bear weight without weighing down, to support without enclosing. The beams extend the interior in cantilevers, forming balconies and overhangs that capture light and wind. The glass façade envelops the extension like a fragile, reflective membrane, mirroring the sky, the seasons, and the life that unfolds within.

Inside, the structure becomes language: the posts and beams not only support the building, they also guide movement, define atmospheres, and sculpt the space. Lightweight partitions and modular openings create a home that can be transformed to suit different uses. Each space breathes, extends, and reinvents itself.

This house is designed like a living organism. It can be dismantled, moved, and readapted. The structure is not only technical: it is framework and poetry, reinforcement and breath. It supports and liberates, fixes and opens, creates a framework without limiting life.

Technology meets sensitivity and sensory perception. Steel, wood, and concrete interact with light, shadows, and the movements of the inhabitants. The interior and exterior respond to each other. The extension does more than just add square footage: it offers a hybrid and flexible way of living, where every gesture, every glance, every step is connected to the space, the light, and the world around it.
